What movie does this sound like to you?

im trying to remember the name its been so long and i want to find it.ok,the movie starts out with a kid sending a message through a satellite dish trying to make contact with aliens saying he wants to get off earth.years later they get there for him.the other part i remember most is when he is put in a room looking like his backyard with his treehouse.i think one of the aliens could go in dog form.i cant remember much more but if anyone knows what im talking about please tell me the name :)
